Medical Mission 2008 - Description and Requirements
The mission aims to perform a minimum of 100-120 major surgical cases such as hernias, gallbladders, gastric ulcers, diverticulitis, thyroids, parathyroids, lipomas, cleft lip and palate, parotid mass, goiter, breast mass, myoma, ovarian mass, as well as minor operations for superficial soft tissue masses and cysts.
Volunteers Needed:
- A team of specialists consisting of general surgeons, plastic surgeons, otolaryngologists, gynecologists, surgical assistants, anesthesiologists, cardiologists and internists
- Surgical scrub nurses for major operations

- Medicines, particularly antibiotics and analgesics, vitamins and those for common illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, etc.
- IV antibiotics and anesthesia sets and drugs
- Surgical instruments and cautery machines
- Surgical supplies such as sutures, drains, suction and IV tubings, sterile sponges, wound dressings, syringes, needles, tubings
- Surgical linens such as drapes, gowns and scrub suits, caps, booties,masks

The entire island of Mindoro, which is separated from the Southern Luzon mainland, is composed of Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro. These two provinces are separated by a mountain range, running through the entire length of the island, which serves as a natural and political boundary.
Occidental Mindoro (Filipino: Kanlurang Mindoro, "Western Mindoro"; Spanish: Mindoro Occidental) is a province of the Philippines located in the MIMAROPA region in Luzon. Its capital is Mamburao and occupies the western half of the island of Mindoro; Oriental Mindoro is at the eastern half. The South China Sea is to the west of the province and Palawan is located to the southwest, across Mindoro Strait. Batangas is to the north, separated by the Verde Island Passage.

San Jose is located at the southern part of the province with a total land area of 551.9294 km. It is considered the main commercial port in the province. It is the most thickly populated area in the province, which continuously grow at 2.38% annually. Out of the total population of 110,812 around 41.97% resides in urban area and 58.03% are situated in rural barangays. Average household size is recorded at 5 with built-up density of 6500 persons per km. About 69.42% are dependents resulting to a dependency ratio of 1:2. On the other hand, male-female ratio is computed at 108:100. Tagalog is the most outspoken dialect and 83.97% are practicing Catholicism.
