About WE Serv Mission for the Poor

WE Serv Mission for the Poor was founded by Benjamin M. and Brenda S.J. Yonzon to provide humanitarian assistance to impoverished people around the world.

The establishment of WE Serv is a direct result of experience gained by Ms. Yonzon as the Sampaguita Family Club's 2001-2003 President/Medical Mission Coordinator. Under Ms. Yonzon's personal management and perseverance, a maiden medical mission was planned locally and successfully executed abroad in the municipality of San Juan Batangas, Philippines on November 8-16, 2002. Lions Club International Foundation, in cooperation with The Sampaguita Club of Chicago assisted with the costs of purchasing medicines, medical supplies and overseas shipping. The Rotary Club of San Juan, Batangas sponsored food and lodging for the medical mission volunteers.

Doctors were recruited through a direct mail campaign from across the United States. These volunteers paid their own international travel expenses to the Philippines to participate in the mission. Services provided ranged from medical consultations and simple excisions to major surgical procedures such as thyroidectomies, herniorrhaphies, cataract extractions, gallstone removal and mastectomy. Over two hundred patients received major/minor surgeries. Additionally, donated medicines, eyeglasses, food packages, and other supplies were distributed. All services and material distributions were provided to the recipients free of charge. It is this charitable methodology that WE Serv will continue to utilize as the template for subsequent medical missions.
